We* propose a think tank established under the assertion that there is no single space or type of space for thought. The act of thinking is multifaceted, personal, in constant flux, and can be generated by external or internal prompts. This project, therefore, capitalizes on the need for variety and complexity in establishing distinct spaces for shifting states of awareness.

Initially derived from the formal geometries of mandalas and the potential for intricacy and difference generated by platonic forms, each building within the structure is a world unto itself. Each enclosed space promotes a different thought experience—from communal brainstorming to individual and highly focused problem-solving. These spaces bleed into one another both programmatically and physically and encourage the tackling of particular issues through a multiplicity of lenses.

Circulation establishes relationships between these spaces but also provides room for peripatetic activity, enabling movement to provoke and encourage other forms of thought. By creating this clockwise motion, the building establishes a cyclical movement that encourages an exploration of the whole structure and anchors itself in the Tibetan tradition of wholeness and completion of action—or good karma. Circularity also informed our process by intentionally molding each building consecutively from the entrance sequence.

Additional drawing explorations for this project were done in conjunction with Drawing & Architectural Form.
